Legacy FreeStyle

Mike Noriega is the founder and leading consultant of Legacy Freestyle Gym. The creation behind Legacy Freestyle derives from Mike’s experience in Judo, wrestling, mixed martial arts, grappling, muay Thai, kickboxing, and athlete coaching. Legacy Freestyle incorporates his experience as an athlete and a coach; in addition, it brings the artistic aspects of martial arts to the various classes presented in its venue.

Mike Noriega has a second-degree black belt in Judo and more than 25 years’ experience with Judo, Wrestling, Muay Thai, and submission wrestling.

A former competitive mixed martial arts fighter and wrestler, Mike has spent years in Judo dojo’s and Wrestling rooms working on any possible situation that can happen while grappling (throwing, tripping, footsweeping, takedowns, catching, and wrestling). Some of his mentors include Masters Champions Sensei Tadashi Hidyoka, Sensei Michael Noriega, Coach Luis Madrigal, Coach Paul LeBlanc. All have made a large impact on Mike’s life.

Mike began practicing Judo at a very young age and became a leading student of the San Gabriel Judo Dojo (founded in 1929). Karate competitions, Judo and Wrestling tournaments played an important role for Mike as a child, as he continued practicing many forms of martial arts. Joining the wrestling team in his freshman year of high school he became a top ranked wrestler throughout high school and college. Soon after, he became head wrestling coach for various high schools in the Southern California.

After many years he was granted a Black belt in judo and became a personal trainer and coach of mixed martial arts fighters. Now, Mike continues to be an active member of the San Gabriel Dojo as an assistant sensei and continues his passion for health and fitness.
